This Botswana safari itinerary takes you through some of Africa's most concentrated wildlife territory, an unspoilt Eden that feels immersive from the first game drive.

It begins in the game-dense Chobe National Park, then moves into the floodplains and swamps of the Okavango Delta in Moremi National Park.

Explore by boat, mokoro and 4x4, with a helicopter flight over the Delta offering a breathtaking view of its papyrus-lined channels and islands.

The terrain teems with wildlife, from elephants and lions to African wild dogs and giraffes, alongside more than 400 recorded bird species.

From there, the itinerary turns to the shimmering Makgadikgadi Pans, remnants of an ancient superlake and now home to one of Africa's largest zebra populations.

When the rains arrive, thousands of migratory zebra and wildebeest fill the pans, with big cats following close behind, alongside the world's largest breeding colony of greater flamingos.

This itinerary is available year round, however natural movements of wildlife – like the zebra migration (see ‘Notes’ below) – are affected by seasonal rains. Please note that changes to the itinerary or to the sequence of excursions may be made subject to weather conditions.

Botswana’s Wet and Dry Seasons
Botswana experiences distinct wet and dry seasons. The dry season in Botswana runs from April to October during the Southern Hemisphere’s winter months, while the wet season occurs in summer from November to March.

Much of the interior of the country is made up of the dry, barren, semi-arid Kalahari Desert where life can only be supported during the stormy wet season. The north of Botswana comprises the more fertile delta of the Okavango and the Chobe River, where watering holes and rivers are still full of water throughout the dry season.

Notes

TRACKING BOTSWANA’S ZEBRA MIGRATION

January to March

Botswana’s hot summer months bring cracking thunderstorms that drench the landscape. At the height of the rainy season, vast zebra herds gather at the shallow, water-filled pans of the Makgadikgadi, remaining until the pans begin to dry as the dry season approaches.

End March / April

The zebra start to head north on the long journey to the Okavango Delta and Chobe River.

May to October

The zebra spend the long dry winter season in the perennial wetlands and close to permanent rivers in the north of Botswana.

End November / December

As the rains begin to fall during epic thunderstorms at the end of November and in early December, the zebra begin their long migration following ancient routes from the north to the south towards the interior of the Kalahari Desert. They will be on the move until January, when they reach the freshly replenished Makgadikgadi Pans.

Our family recently returned from an unforgettable safari vacation in Tanzania and Kenya organized by Bernard with Nziza Hospitality, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations from start to finish.  We were celebrating a  birthday and his team made it special. Every detail was handled flawlessly, including flight transfers, luxury accommodations, daily logistics, and dining arrangements. The level of planning and attention to detail allowed us to simply relax and enjoy the adventure, knowing everything was being managed professionally. The wildlife viewing was absolutely spectacular. We saw an incredible variety and abundance of animals in their natural habitats, creating memories that will last a lifetime. The breathtaking landscapes of the Serengeti and the vast plains of Kenya provided a stunning backdrop for every game drive and excursion. Things happened as planned, the lodges that we stayed at were clean,  were located in beautiful  settimgs, and provided EXCELLENT food. The field trip locations were full of beautiful scenery and animals; plenty of photos opportunities. The staff and tour guides were very knowledgeable and the leadership went out of their way to assure my comfort and enjoyment. As you can see, I will be a repeat customer. These folks were top level. He and his company have the highest expectations of themselves as well as the lodges they partner with. They do an exceptional job creating experiences and go above and beyond imagination. It was very clear no matter what property we stayed at or who we had as a driver on safari, we were getting the best out of everyone and everything. Bernard demands the best for his customers- best rooms, butlers, service/attention to detail. From the moment you land to the moment you leave you will never be on your own- all scheduling, logistics/transportation, bookings will all be taken care of for you. His knowledge is second to none. He curates the trip based on the time of year/where the migration is happening and will guide you toward the best places and things to do, but will also work you depending on locations/things of interest to you and the family.
