OVERVIEW

With just 30 villas, this stunning fully inclusive resort evokes the heritage of Zanzibar dating back to the era of the Sultans. A fusion of Arabic, Swahili and Indian design, with Swahili arches, intricate hand-carved décor, beautiful antiques, handmade furniture and intricate brass lanterns, Baraza Resort is unparalleled luxury.

Accommodation ranges from two-bedroom villas (Sultan and Garden View), to one-bedroom villas (Ocean Front or standard). All villas have a large terrace with sun loungers and a plunge pool.

Their extensive library features a wonderful selection of books on Zanzibar and East Africa, as well as on animals, trees, spices and fish relative to the island and region. Having observed guests’ keen interest in the local culture, the resort initiated the Baraza Swahili Experience, offering classes “under the palm trees” from Mwalimu (teacher), on Swahili and the history of Zanzibar, and palm weaving sessions on the beach. Cooking classes are organised regularly in which guests learn how to prepare classic Swahili dishes from chefs who talk about the local spices, their use and importance. Baraza also offers tours, activities and experiences designed to explore the area and interact with the community.

The Water Club is located metres from the Resort on Bwejuu Beach offering wind surfing, kite surfing and sailing, all with top notch equipment. You can also borrow bicycles and pedal around the island stopping off to swim or browse the villages. The Rising Sun Dive Centre is the only PADI 5* Gold Palm and National Geographic Dive Centre in Zanzibar, and with over 400 species of fish to spot and 65,000 metres of reef to explore, this is an ideal place to learn to dive or to follow your passion.
