Behind a quiet gate on Bogani Road in leafy Karen, House of Waine feels more like a grand private residence than a hotel. Eleven individually named rooms are scattered through 2.5 acres of landscaped gardens, each with a marble bathroom, air conditioning, and a minibar.
The set menu changes daily and can be enjoyed on terraces, by the pool pavilion, or in the gardens, with drinks at the main bar or beside the heated pool. Giraffes, orphaned elephants, and the Karen Blixen Museum are all a short drive away, and electric fencing, CCTV, and two manned entrances keep the grounds secure. Small meetings of up to 20 are welcome too.
