Gorilla Mountain Lodge is harmoniously nestled in the folds of densely vegetated rolling hills. Immersing guests in clean air and bird song, the lodge is perfectly located for gorilla trekking, these gentle giants freely roam the surrounding hills, they can be found relatively close to the lodge but be prepared for a longer trek if they have moved away. The vegetation and uneven terrain can be quite challenging so a level of fitness is required.
Accommodation is in spacious canvas tents with stone walled bathrooms complete with free standing bathtubs, perfect for a relaxing soak after a day trekking. The decor is neutral and accented with local artworks and artefacts.
In addition to your gorilla trek there are birding walks, see how many of the 350 bird species you can spot. You can also take a guided walk to the magnificent Munyaga waterfall, enroute look out for rare forest elephant, giant forest hog, red tailed and blue monkey, black and white colobus, baboons and chimpanzees. You can also find forest duiker, bush buck and over 200 species of butterflies.
There are cultural visits to the Batwa Tribe, learn about hunting and gathering, music and religion, there are records of the Batwa made by the Egyptians over 4,000 years ago telling of people living near the ‘Mountains of the Moon’ and extolling their dancing and storytelling. These qualities are apparent today and make a visit something to be cherished.
