Segera Retreats Laikipia
Segera Retreats is a stunning retreat and sanctuary in the high grasslands of the Laikipia Plateau with views out towards Mount Kenya.
OVERVIEW
Named in The New York Times Top 20 Places to Go in the World, Segera Retreats offers a ludicrously relaxing retreat to indulge in either before or after a safari.
The essence of Segera is ‘safari sanctuary’ with a difference, in fact, wildlife is almost a secondary part of the experience. The retreat, owned by Jochen Zeitz is very much inspired by a focus on contemporary art and creative ideas, with a strong commitment to sustainability, evident in every aspect of the lodge, from the solar-powered villas to the use of locally-sourced materials and ingredients.
Segera’s six timber and thatch villas are raised above a profusion of the bush in Laikipia with views out towards Mount Kenya, while the recently restored Farmhouse homestead, gracious Segera House and Villa Segera boast even greater privacy and luxury. The main area comprises the Paddock House, Wine Tower and renovated stables, complete with a bar and dining room filled with contemporary African art from the Zeitz Collection.
Guests at Segera can pick from a long list of experiences, from classic safari game drives to community visits, guided game walks, local market shopping, African art tours, botanical spa treatments or simply unwind by the pool. For the more adventurous, hop on a helicopter safari or sleep out under the stars in their Nay Palad Bird Nest – well worth the additional cost.
