Time + Tide Chinzombo brings a fresh sense of style to the wilderness of South Luangwa National Park. Set beneath ancient msikizi trees on the banks of the Luangwa River, this intimate camp has just six safari tents, offering guests a private and peaceful base in one of Zambia’s finest wildlife destinations.

The setting is a major part of the experience at Time + Tide Chinzombo. The camp follows the curve of the river, with wide views across the water and surrounding bush. Natural materials such as canvas, timber and reed give the spaces a classic safari feel, while soft linens, vintage leather and carefully chosen details add a touch of understated luxury.

Getting to Time + Tide Chinzombo is part of the adventure. The camp is about an hour’s game drive from Mfuwe Airport, allowing guests to begin their safari almost as soon as they leave the airstrip.

The six tents are spacious and designed to make the most of their riverside setting. Five are one-bedroom tents, while the two-bedroom family tent offers extra space and two bathrooms. Every tent has a private plunge pool, shaded verandah and large soaking tub overlooking the river.

Inside, the design is comfortable without feeling overdone. Double or twin beds, en-suite bathrooms, Wi-Fi and mains power provide everything guests need, while the open sides keep the sights and sounds of the bush close.

There is little need for entertainment here. Hippos call from the river after dark, birds fill the trees during the day and wildlife can sometimes wander close to camp. It is this constant connection with nature that gives Chinzombo its character.

The main camp is centred around the river views, with a relaxed lounge, dining area, bar and open-air library. A riverside deck provides an inviting place to enjoy a drink, watch wildlife or simply take in the changing light across the valley. In the evening, guests can gather around the fire and share stories from the day.

Food is fresh and seasonal, with many ingredients grown at the camp. Dining is relaxed and can take place in different settings, including outdoors beside the river or beneath the stars.

South Luangwa is one of Africa’s great walking safari destinations, and Time + Tide Chinzombo makes the most of this. Guided walks reveal the smaller details of the bush, from animal tracks to plants and insects, while game drives offer opportunities to see elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo and hippos.
