Gorongosa National Park is in central Mozambique at the southern end of the Great Rift Valley. It is one of Africa’s most beautiful national parks and is known for its rich wildlife, stunning scenery, and successful conservation work. The park has open grasslands, forests, rivers, wetlands, and the famous Miombo woodlands, creating a perfect home for many different animals.
After many years of civil war and illegal hunting, much of the park’s wildlife disappeared. Today, conservation teams continue to restore the park, and many animals have returned. Visitors can now enjoy exciting game drives while helping to support wildlife conservation.
The park is home to elephants, lions, buffalo, warthogs, waterbuck, and many species of antelope. It is also a great place for birdwatching, with more than 400 bird species, including the rare Green-headed Oriole. Colourful butterflies, insects, and large termite mounds add to the park’s unique landscape.
