Mara Plains Camp
With extensive traversing rights through the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, the intimate Mara Plains Camp offers the finest wildlife viewing and a superb safari experience.
Mara Plains Camp has traversing rights to all 40 000 hectares of the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, which is reputed to have the lowest vehicle density in the Maasai Mara region. The conservancy also supports the highest concentration of big cats anywhere in Africa, as well as all the Big Five and 300-plus bird species. After dark, larger mammals frequent the camp itself, and Maasai warriors escort guests to and from their rooms.
This beautiful camp is discreetly tucked into a riverine forest on the bends of the Ntiakitiak River, with sweeping views across the plains. Each suite has deep canvas canopied ceilings, wooden floors and traditional East African safari accents. The well-appointed en-suite facilities (including a deep copper bath) and extensive private verandah make each suite an idyllic retreat. At night, you will fall asleep to the nightly soundtrack of hippos grunting, leopards barking and lions vocalising up to eight kilometres away. At Mara Plains it is all about immersing yourself in the wilderness and there is no set camp schedule. You choose how you want to tailor your day’s activities and dining arrangements – so if you encounter an exceptional sighting, you can spend as long as you like and make every wild minute count.
