Songa Migration Camp
Songa Tented Camp truly places wildlife encounters at the heart of its unique experience: For maximal exposure, the tented camp moves twice a year, roughly following the Great Migration.
Songa Tented Camp, situated in Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, provides a glimpse into what safaris must have felt like in the olden days – explorer aesthetic and luxurious facilities included. The comfortable interior of the 8 generous en-suite canvas tents, 1 family tent, and sophisticated lounge and dining tents feature earthy tones and fiery hues of orange that cite the vast grasslands and dreamlike sunsets of the surrounding vista.
The word Songa in Swahili means “to move” – an apt name considering that the Migrational Camp retraces the steps of roughly 2 million wildebeest by seasonally moving between two locations: The northern Serengeti in the hills of Kogatende with herds crossing from July to November and its southern counterpart in Maswa Kimali, which is under exclusive use for the migration from December throughout March. This not only ensures proximity to game crossings, the camp’s cyclical immersion into different parts of the Serengeti also allows for more intimate encounters with the animals away from big crowds
