Zambezi National Park lies just a few kilometres from Victoria Falls, making it one of the easiest places to enjoy a safari while visiting one of the world’s greatest natural wonders. Covering about 560km², the park stretches along the banks of the Zambezi River towards Kazungula and forms part of the Kavango–Zambezi (KAZA) Transfrontier Conservation Area, one of the largest protected wildlife regions in the world.
The Zambezi River is the heart of the park. It provides water throughout the year and attracts a wide variety of wildlife. The park has two main game-viewing areas. The river route offers excellent opportunities to see animals along the water’s edge, while the Chamabondo area features open woodland where large mammals often gather.
Zambezi National Park is home to elephants, lions, buffaloes, leopards, giraffes, zebras, sable antelope, kudu, waterbuck, impala, and many other animals. Hippos and crocodiles are common in the river, and birdwatchers can look out for around 400 bird species, including several rare and colourful birds. The Zambezi River is also one of Africa’s best places to catch the famous tiger fish.
Visitors can explore the park on game drives, guided walking safaris, boat cruises, or fishing trips. Several riverside lodges offer comfortable accommodation with beautiful views of the Zambezi. The dry season, from April to October, is the best time to visit, as wildlife gathers around the river and game viewing is at its best.
