Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls is one of Africa’s most famous landmarks and a must-visit destination in Zimbabwe. Known as Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning “The Smoke That Thunders,” the waterfall lies on the Zambezi River, which forms the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Stretching over 1.7 kilometres, it is one of the largest waterfalls in the world. The Zimbabwean side offers most of the viewing points, where visitors can enjoy breathtaking views from a rainforest nourished by the spray from the falls.

A network of walking paths takes visitors through the rainforest to a series of viewpoints overlooking the waterfall. For those who prefer a slower pace, there are cultural tours, local craft markets, wildlife viewing, and relaxing sunset cruises. The town is also an excellent base for day trips to Hwange National Park, Chobe National Park, and Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park.

Every season offers a different experience. During the high-water months, the falls produce an incredible curtain of water and mist that can be seen from kilometres away. As water levels drop later in the year, the views become clearer, making it a great time for photography and adventure activities such as visiting Devil’s Pool. Many travellers choose June and July because they offer a good balance of powerful waterfalls, pleasant weather, and excellent safari opportunities.
