Sniffer Dogs
A really unusual and interesting thing to do is to visit the sniffer dogs in Laikipia, Kenya.
These hard working and incredibly trained blood hounds are absolutely amazing, it is impossible to imagine how they can navigate so accurately by smell. They are used for the benefit of the community to track down criminals and even missing children. They are incredibly friendly and not aggressive in the least, they have a great relationship with their handlers who clearly adore them. Just scuffing your shoe in the dust leaves enough scent for these remarkable hounds to track you, you will go with your guide, laying a scent just by walking in whatever direction you fancy, zigging and zagging to make it a challenge, then from your hiding place you can observe the dog following exactly in your tracks through bare earth and thick grass and scrub until they reach you! They are rewarded with a treat and a tummy rub.
